Note I only leave pictures here for a month or so and then move them into the body of the site, by country , by type and or onto the special pages

AFGHANISTAN

Local made variation of the 1913/17 pattern bayonet. This is not one of the early ones to come out of the country and i suspect it is a repro for "tourists". In which case is the locket mark the number the guy has made, or is it a real mark

AUSTRALIA

Paratrooper Bayonet, another attempt to make a bayonet a more multi purpose tool. This is a real one to compare against my earlier fake

1907 made by Lithgow, complete with early hooked quillion. The Australians continued to make the quillioned ones later than the UK but still made very small numbers. This is made in 1914, a year later than the UK stopped production.

Bayonet is unit marked but does not match the scabbard

Frog is a modified Ross frog, and it came with the bayonet.

The damage to the point is very old .

AUSTRIA

STF made 1895

Variation in STF mark with extra square stamp

Unknown ricasso stamp on 1895

CHILE

Modified 1874 Gras has new high cross guard with the muzzle ring machined back to give the correct lock to ring length, and the back of the pommel is shaved to align bayonet properly

CZECHOSLOVAKIA

German S98 nA mS used by Czech forces after WWI not only has it got a Czech arsenal mark it appears to have a Czech serial on the pommel as well.  A not common German blade and one of only 3 examples I know of

VZ33 with FS hilt marking, unfortunately the scabbard is not FS marked. As in all of these blades the CSZ has been defaces. FS is for customs use, as opposed to CETN for the police. This is an uncommon marking

Austrian 1895 with Pommel stamps for Czechoslovak acceptance

FROG

Frog for the UK No4

Swiss for the M1957

GERMANY

Three uncommon blades in one:

a Saxon marked 71/84,
original steel scabbard
DOA - German West Africa unit marks

Originally a Saxon issued piece, this bayonet was withdrawn and re issued for the use of the Askari troops in west Africa in WWI. The officers and NCO's used the KS98 - see my example - while the native troops were issued with the 71/84 and these bayonets. Although more of these would have been issued, they are the harder of the issue blades to find, probably as the troops used them as tools after the war, not souvenirs.

Converted 1866

84/98 nA made by  Stepman & Co. bayonet has no military acceptance stamps, no spine date or pommel stamps. Scabbard is a Spanish not German one so probably not original

Eickhorn made KCB for the M16, blade has just the Eickhorn Squirrel  so is an original early version

GREECE

UK No4 used by Greece, only the frog  is marked, bayonet still has UK WD arrow

JAPAN

Murato 18, missing grips and pommel lock. Still has chrysanthemum  (Mum) on crossguard and makers mark on ricasso. Currently I do not know the meaning of the characters on the pommel

M9

Commercial by Lan Cay without sawback. There was a trials version made like this but the blades were marked M9-FT

Commercial by Lan Cay with grey and white splinter camo finish

PAKISTAN

Only a couple of these No9 were known about but recently there have been a couple on EBAY. The marking was un identified until it was pointed out that the mark was the same as on 1907's and it was noted that the old Indian MIL factory is now in Pakistan and is now the site of the POF. These must be early production as most blades are marked POF

PORTUGAL

WWI entrentching tool leather work with holder for a bayonet (probably the 1904). All parts are original including halve - not sure about dirt though

SAUDI ARABIA

Long bladed G3 bayonet in what appears to be a WWI FAG style scabbard

USA

Modified and chromed US 1899
