Bayonet for unknown rifle, uses original 1874 French Gras blade, scabbard
and cross guard with new pommel and grips
Crossguard and just visible is the original Gras ricasso mark
Original Arsenal marks re just visible on spine of blade
UK 1856 style pommel with wooden grips cut to resemble the French 1866
Chassepot bayonet
Pommel looks very similar to the 1856 Yataghan style in shape and style |
      |
Chinese made Arisaka with original frog
Frog s modelled on the original Japanese pattern
Original Frog reverse side
Hilt uses Japanese style oval screws
Crude Braze on attaching the pommel to the tang
Is this a marking or just corrosion marks Bill
(Juken30 ) has identified this mark as the Arsenal marking for the 90th
Arsenal under Communist control |
   |
Bayonet made for a Mauser type bayonet Hilt, note that the fixings are oval as in the Japanese Arisaka blades
Also rivets are not central on tang |
      |
Not sure if this is supposed to be a copy of the Gras or of the Peabody
T backed blade is not as well formed as European blades with very heavy T
and less defined T shape Hilt is straight backed not humped as for the Gras
Frog strap on scabbard is much narrower than the European made ones and
scabbard is of thinner material Pommel is ground flat to allow it to mount, maybe like the Germans the
original Gras Hump has been removed to fit to a later type rifle 1871(?) date and unknown blade script |

Pressed steel hilt, similar to those used on some German WWI ersatz blades
Belgian made Ersatz bayonet, uses old Belgian socket blade fixed to a sheet
steel hilt. |
     |
Belgian made "ersatz" using a Belgian socket
blade to make a new bayonet for a Mauser type rifle
rather crude wooden grips with Germanic style
hilt anad cross guard
Interesting very well made and substantial
scabbard |
      |
Belgian made bayonets for China, essentially similar
these two have variations in the grips retaining screws/bolts, one is blued the
other is not and the in white blade only shows a half muzzle ring which is
different to all other blades of this type I have or know of |
 |
6 Belgian produced bayonets,
these use Geramn WWI ersatz bayonets and parts from other swords and
bayonets as their basis. It is thought that they were produced in small
"workshops" to bring work in the aftermath of WWI. I suppose the
identification should be 1920, as are the other Chinese blades of this
period but these are not shown in the texts, and as they are conversions
may end up being like the Turkish conversions in their numbers. |
   |
Not sure if this is a conversion
of another blade or not, it has some similarity to the 1907 style blade
but....... |

Converted German ersatz
Hilt has been machined to allow
inset wooden grips, original muzzle ring has been removed
original German inspection mark
on the spine |
     |
Converted 98/05 ersatz style
bayonet in original 98/05 leather scabbard, I would think that the issue
would have been in a steel scabbard not leather unless for a specific
purpose i.e. NCO?
wooden grips inset into original
steel hilt
the grooves in the original hilt
are still visible
Grips are very thin
German inspection mark on spine
still visible
|
    |
Is this a conversion of another
German blade, possibly a re shaped 98/05 style ersatz
all steel hilt has German ersatz
style
very thin grips
blunt blade, is this due to the
re shaping of the original butcher blade shape? |
   |
is this another ersatz
conversion, the blade heavily ground on the ricasso, hilt style is similar
to the 98/05 |
     |
Another German Ersatz conversion
Removed muzzle ring and wooden
grip inserts
cross guard is crudely ground off
again very shallow grips inserts |
        |
French 1866 copy, has stepped hilt similar to the German WWI conversions to
fit the 1871
Blade fullers extend under the cross guard
Hilt spring is very thin
Blade is narrower than the Chassepot and muzzle ring adjuster uses nut and
bolt
Hilt grooves are very crudely made
Comparison of French and Chinese models

Mukden Arisaka made after the
Japanese had left
Crudely made blade has Mukden
arsenal stamp on the ricasso. Blade shows heavy signs of grinding under a
dark blued finish (Juken30) has identified the
additional ricasso mark as the 90th Arsenal under National Chinese control
(1945 to 1948) Many thanks
Late war pattern crossguard and
pommel combined with grips held together by rivets

Grips are made with screw

1920 model based on
UK 1907 / Japanese Ariska style blade. |
      |
Fake paratrooper bayonet, appears
to attempt to be a Japanese type 100
Marked with 1917
and US marking
Crude pommel
Scabbard is apparently marked with para wings over a star, not sure
what the markings are meant to represent
Scabbard is also marked with a US-M8 marking. Amazing piece |

Norinco made AKM provided with SVD copies in the USA, these are commercial
rather than military blades, but made by the same factories
The pommel is slightly different to the Russian models
The colour of the Chinese bayonets is distinctive, with a semi matt finish |

T81, must be the
bluntest bayonet ever made, as there is no edge on it at all
T81 modified to fit
US M1 Carbine
Muzzle ring and
pommel modifications to fit the M1 |
